Alex, and his wife Michelle live with their 3 children, Findlay, Thomas, and Florence in the small village of Thistleton in Rutland, situated halfway between Melton Mowbray and Stamford.
The Son of two vets and eldest of 4 boys, veterinary medicine with a competitive edge was an inevitability. His childhood was spent on ponies competing in all disciplines for the Hursley Pony Club. His passions lay with Polo and mounted games. Mounted games took him all over Europe and culminated with him becoming World individual champion (2001) and twice member of the England team, becoming World team champions in 2002.
Veterinary medicine at Cambridge honed his skills at the mantra ‘work hard-play hard’ where, in his undergraduate years he took up rowing. He was selected to travel to China and South Korea representing Cambridge in the University Lightweights and went on to beat Oxford in the Varsity boat race. In his final year he also played Polo for Cambridge in the varsity match, this time unfortunately losing to Oxford. Two half blues and a veterinary degree was a good return for 6 years at university.
From graduation, Alex joined Fellowes Farm Equine Clinic, just outside Huntingdon and got the hunting bug. Twelve seasons later and 3 years field mastering for the Cottesmore, the arrival of their first child Findlay meant Alex hung up his hunting boots. He joined Oakham in 2007 and became a partner in 2009. After 17 years in the ‘hospital’ environment, he felt it was time to change tack and set up his own Equine Practice.
“Starting up on my own and moving away from managing a big hospital is a chance to re-focus so I can offer more time to my clients and family. Offering a more bespoke and personal service, I hope to be able to concentrate on what I really enjoy doing for the horses, riders and the team behind them”.
